RECOVERY OF SEPTEMBER 8TH PARK

Neighbors from Pisco Playa Zona Norte, the San Francisco de Asís Neighborhood Committee, students from the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú, volunteers from Pisco Sin Fronteras and Espacio Expresión cooperated in the recovery of the September 8th Park, whose latest improvements were complete in January 2012.

The park's transformation was a valuable improvement to the neighborhood's quality of life and to neighbors in Pisco Playa Zona Norte, who still rememeber September 8th Park when it first opened in the 1950s. The park's participatory design includes a pergola and benches where neighbors can meet and enjoy the wetland landscape and the sea, as well as new plants and playgrounds.

The San Francisco de Asís Neighborhood Committee has fostered the recovery of the September 8th Park first through the province's participatory budget process, later as part of the portfolio of projects in Yo Soy Pisco developed by Espacio Expresión. From August to December 2011, the committee received technical assistance from students in the Urban Connections course from the School of Architectura and Urban Design at the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú. Some of these students who continued supporting the initiative after the course, when Pisco Sin Fronteras contributed materials and labor as well.
